Clubs & Societies

All official clubs and societies on campus are created by students for students, with the support of the SA. Our Campus Clubs & Student Societies office gives students the tools they need to get involved and offer rewarding social, cultural, and educational opportunities for their members.

Choose a Durham College School or UOIT Faculty to view the active societies and sub-societies. Society membership is only open to students of each respective school or faculty that the society represents.

What’s the difference between a club and a society?

Clubs are focused on common interests, hobbies, and goals. They’re open to all students at Durham College and UOIT. Societies (and sub-societies) are only open to students within a specific school or faculty.

Why should I join a club or society?

Clubs and societies offer students a great way to meet people, network, develop professional skills, gain experience for your resume, and have fun! Club and society members gain co-curricular recognition, offered by each institution to students actively participating and engaging in leadership roles on campus.

How do I join a club or society?

Take a look at our lists of active groups above. You’ll find clubs organized by interest and societies organized by school or faculty. Click on an interest or school/faculty, and then the group name to access their contact info. If you’re having trouble reaching a certain group, let us know.

How do I start a club?

If you can’t find a club that suits your interest, start your own! Just make sure a similar club doesn’t already exist. Then, fill out a ratification package. We’ll be in touch after that.

If you need help with the ratification process, we can help.

Why aren’t there any sports-related clubs?

At this time, we don’t ratify sports clubs. Sports-based activities run through the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. If you have an idea for intramurals, varsity or novice teams, or any sports-based group, contact Athletics.

Meetings are by appointment only. We are unable to accept drop-ins during peak periods.
