To our Members:
On Monday, May 16, 2016, Durham College students received some troubling information about The Student Association at Durham College & UOIT (SA) in the form of an email from the school’s administration.
DC stated that due to challenges related to the SA’s General Election process, which left our organization without an Executive team, the school would be withholding student fees until those issues are resolved to their satisfaction.
Last night, at the SA Board of Director’s meeting, the Board ratified the following student leadership:
Cerise Wilson, President
Miriam Abo Nokerah, VP University Affairs
Vianney Nengue, VP College Affairs
Israel Nieto, VP Downtown
Toritse Ikomi, VP Equity
Robyn Walter, VP Whitby-Pickering, and Jankhan Patel, VP International Affairs, were ratified at a previous meeting.
This Executive Team will work with Durham College administrators to remedy the situation and ensure the membership fees they collect on behalf of the SA are transferred to us so we can continue to serve and support the students of Durham College and UOIT.
The email also stated the college’s intention to end the relationship between DC and the SA as of May 2017. Our Board of Directors, Executives and staff will be working hard to find a solution to this issue and we will provide updates to our members along the way.
In the meantime, all SA services we will operate as usual. As always, we look forward to serving and supporting you.
